Welcome Dark Elves!
In NERO International, Dark Elves are among the most difficult and role-play intensive races that a player can choose for their character. The rewards for the well played Dark Elf, however, can be very much worth it (both in-game and out).
A word of warning. While some aspects of the race may be similar, keep in mind that Dark Elves in NERO are NOT Drow from Forgotten Realms D&D; playing your character based upon the culture and background of the Drow will at best bring you scorn from other players and at worst may have staff asking or forcing you to change your character's race for not conforming to the requirements of the NERO Dark Elven race.
Dark Elf Basics
While there are a variety of Dark Elven cultures (see the combined race/culture packet and/or your local plot team) which players can choose to draw from, there are quite a few aspects that are common across them all. In general, Dark Elves are native to underground places and as such have become sensitive to bright light and are physically weakened by direct sunlight. Dark Elven cultures tend tend to be xenophobic, distrusting other races and rarely allowing vistors to their homelands. Dark Elves also consider themselves to be superior to other races, and for this reason generally prefer the company of other Dark Elves.
Most Dark Elven cultures are based somewhat loosely on Japanese and other oriental cultures. One of the central focal points Dark Elven cultures is their strict codes of honor; maintaining honor and not bringing shame upon themselves, their house or their race is the most important thing in a Dark Elf's life. As a result of this, a Dark Elf should strive to keep their word when it is given, especially on the rare occasion that one should swear an oath upon his/her honor.
